Digestive & Metabolic Health Care for Women in Portland, OR
Your gut and your metabolism are in constant conversation. When one struggles, the other usually does too.
Chelsie Moore is a functional medicine clinician and integrative dietitian nutritionist in Portland, OR, who helps women resolve digestive issues and improve metabolic health through root-cause nutrition. Her work covers bloating, IBS symptoms, reflux, blood sugar, insulin resistance and weight. She sees clients in person in Portland and virtually.
Maybe you've cut out food after food and still feel bloated. Or maybe you've been told your blood sugar is "creeping up" and to watch your carbs, with little else to go on. You deserve answers and a plan that makes sense for your body.
Does This Sound Familiar?
Digestive and metabolic symptoms often get brushed off as "just stress" or "just age." You might be dealing with:
Bloating that builds through the day, so you look pregnant by dinner
Constipation, loose stools, or swinging between the two
Gas, cramping, reflux or heartburn
A growing list of foods you're afraid to eat
Energy crashes, shakiness or "hanger" between meals
Weight gain around your middle that doesn't budge
Being told your blood sugar, A1C or cholesterol is "borderline"
Cravings that feel impossible to manage
Digestion that changed in your 40s and never went back
These aren't things you just have to put up with. They're signals, and they usually point to patterns we can work with.
How Gut Health and Metabolism Are Connected
Your digestive system does far more than process food. It shapes how you absorb nutrients, regulate blood sugar, manage inflammation and even process hormones. Your metabolism, meanwhile, depends on steady blood sugar, healthy insulin signaling and the nutrients your gut delivers.
When things go off course in one system, the other often follows:
The gut microbiome influences inflammation, blood sugar response and how estrogen is recycled in the body
Blood sugar swings can drive cravings, fatigue and weight gain, and they're shaped by what, when and how you eat
Insulin resistance is common in women, especially with PMOS/PCOS and during perimenopause, and it often develops years before blood sugar looks abnormal
Stress slows digestion, changes gut bacteria and raises blood sugar
Hormonal shifts in perimenopause can change digestion, body composition and insulin sensitivity
That's why treating bloating with one more elimination diet, or blood sugar with "eat less," so often misses the bigger picture.
A Root-Cause Approach to Digestive and Metabolic Health
Instead of guessing, restricting, or managing symptoms one at a time, we map what's driving your digestive and metabolic concerns:
Digestive function: stomach acid, enzymes, motility and regularity, and what your symptoms tell us about where things are getting stuck
Gut balance: considering bacterial overgrowth, microbiome imbalance and gut-lining health, with functional testing when it will change the plan
Food triggers: structured, time-limited elimination and reintroduction when warranted, with the goal of expanding your diet, not shrinking it
Blood sugar and insulin: meal composition and timing, plus markers like fasting insulin and A1C to catch insulin resistance early
Nutrient status: iron, B12, vitamin D and other nutrients that digestive issues can deplete
Stress and the gut–brain connection: practical ways to calm a nervous system that's keeping digestion on edge
Your plan may include personalized nutrition, targeted lab or functional testing, behavior-change strategies, and pharmaceutical-grade, third-party tested supplements from one of our trusted partners. I work alongside your primary care provider or gastroenterologist, and I refer out when symptoms need further medical evaluation.

Digestive & Metabolic Health FAQs
Why am I bloated all the time?
Common causes include slow digestion, low stomach acid or enzymes, bacterial overgrowth, food intolerances, constipation, stress and hormonal shifts. Bloating is common, but constant bloating is a sign something needs attention.
What is insulin resistance, and how do I know if I have it?
Insulin resistance happens when your cells respond less effectively to insulin, so your body needs more of it to keep blood sugar steady. It can develop years before blood sugar looks abnormal. Signs include cravings, energy crashes, and weight gain around the middle. Labs like fasting insulin, fasting glucose and A1C can help identify it.
Can a functional medicine approach help with IBS?
Yes. A functional approach looks for what's driving IBS symptoms, such as bacterial imbalance, food triggers, stress and the gut–brain connection. It then builds a personalized plan rather than simply managing symptoms.
Do I need a restrictive elimination diet?
Not necessarily. When an elimination phase is useful, it's structured, short-term and followed by careful reintroduction. The goal is always the most varied diet your body tolerates well.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. I see clients in person in Portland, Oregon, and virtually.
Do you take insurance?
Moore Integrative Health is an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible reimbursement, and HSA/FSA funds can often be used.
