Fatigue & Burnout Care for Women in Portland, OR

Being exhausted all the time is common. That doesn't make it normal, and it doesn't mean you have to live this way.

Chelsie Moore is a functional medicine clinician and integrative dietitian nutritionist in Portland, OR, who helps women find the root causes of persistent fatigue and burnout. She looks at nutrient status, thyroid, blood sugar, hormones, stress and sleep together, and sees clients in person in Portland and virtually.

Maybe you've been told your labs are "normal" and to just get more sleep. Or maybe you're so used to running on empty that you've forgotten what rested feels like. Your exhaustion has reasons, and we can find them.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Fatigue and burnout creep in slowly, until one day you realize you've been surviving rather than living. You might notice:

  • Needing caffeine to get going and sugar to get through the afternoon

  • Waking up tired, even after a full night's sleep

  • "Tired but wired" nights, when you're exhausted but can't switch off

  • Brain fog, forgetfulness or trouble focusing

  • Feeling irritable, flat or tearful with little reserve left

  • Getting sick more often or taking longer to recover

  • Workouts that drain you instead of energizing you

  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy

  • Feeling like everyone else can keep up, so something must be wrong with you

Nothing is wrong with you. Persistent exhaustion is a signal that your body's demands are outpacing its resources, and that's something we can work with.

Why Are So Many Women Exhausted?

Fatigue and burnout overlap, but they aren't the same. Fatigue is a physical state of low energy that rest doesn't fully fix. Burnout is a response to prolonged, unrelenting stress. It often shows up as exhaustion, detachment and a sense that you can't keep going the way you have been. Many women are dealing with both at once.

For women, the reasons tend to stack up. Common physical drivers include:

  • Low iron or ferritin: very common in women with heavy periods, and often missed when only hemoglobin is checked

  • Thyroid issues: including Hashimoto's, which can cause fatigue long before it's formally diagnosed

  • Blood sugar swings: spikes and crashes drain energy throughout the day

  • Nutrient gaps: vitamin D, B12 and magnesium, along with not eating enough overall

  • Hormonal shifts: perimenopause, PMOS/PCOS and the postpartum years can all take a toll on energy

  • Chronic stress: a stress response that's been "on" for too long disrupts sleep, blood sugar and mood

  • Sleep disruption: from hormones, stress, pain or an overactive mind

Add the invisible load many women carry at work and at home, and exhaustion starts to make a lot of sense.

A Root-Cause Approach to Fatigue and Burnout

Instead of telling you to push harder or simply rest more, we look for what's actually draining you and rebuild your energy from the foundation up:

  • Comprehensive lab review: iron studies including ferritin, a full thyroid panel, vitamin D, B12, blood sugar markers and other tests based on your history

  • Nutrition for steady energy: eating enough, balancing meals for stable blood sugar, and correcting deficiencies

  • Stress physiology: supporting a stress response that's been overworked, with practical tools rather than one more thing on your to-do list

  • Sleep: identifying what's disrupting your sleep, whether that's hormones, blood sugar, stress or habits

  • Hormones: how your cycle, perimenopause or PMOS may be affecting your energy

  • Capacity and boundaries: using behavior-change strategies to make recovery sustainable in your real life

Your plan may include personalized nutrition, targeted lab testing, lifestyle and behavior-change strategies, and pharmaceutical-grade, third-party tested supplements from one of our trusted partners. Persistent fatigue can have many medical causes, so I work alongside your primary care provider and refer out when something needs further evaluation.

Fatigue is often connected to other hormone and metabolic concerns.

Fatigue & Burnout FAQs

Why am I always tired even though I sleep enough?

Common reasons include low iron or ferritin, thyroid issues, blood sugar swings, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal changes, chronic stress and poor sleep quality, even when you get enough hours. Persistent fatigue deserves a proper look at your labs and your whole picture rather than a shrug.

What is the difference between fatigue and burnout?

Fatigue is persistent low energy that rest doesn't fully resolve, and it often has physical causes. Burnout is a response to prolonged stress, marked by exhaustion, detachment and reduced capacity. They often overlap, and supporting one usually helps the other.

What labs should I get for fatigue?

Useful labs often include a complete blood count, iron studies with ferritin, a full thyroid panel, vitamin D, B12, and blood sugar markers such as fasting glucose and A1C. What you need depends on your symptoms and history.

Is "adrenal fatigue" real?

"Adrenal fatigue" isn't a recognized medical diagnosis, but the symptoms people describe with it are very real. Chronic stress does affect cortisol rhythms, sleep, blood sugar and energy. I focus on supporting your stress physiology as a whole rather than on a single label.

Can nutrition help with fatigue?

Yes. Eating enough, balancing blood sugar, and correcting deficiencies like iron, B12 and vitamin D are some of the most effective ways to restore energy.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. I see clients in person in Portland, Oregon, and virtually.

Do you take insurance?

Moore Integrative Health is an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible reimbursement, and HSA/FSA funds can often be used.
