Women’s Weight Health in Portland, OR
If "eat less, move more" worked for you, you wouldn't be here. Your body isn't the problem. The approach might be.
Chelsie Moore is a functional medicine clinician and integrative dietitian nutritionist in Portland, OR, who helps women improve weight health by addressing root causes. She looks at hormones, insulin resistance, stress, sleep and nutrition together, without shame or extreme restriction, and sees clients in person in Portland and virtually.
Maybe your body changed in your 40s and nothing you used to do works anymore. Maybe you've spent years on diets that worked until they didn't. Or maybe you're on a GLP-1 medication and want to protect your muscle, energy and long-term health. Wherever you're starting, you deserve care that treats you like a whole person.
Does This Sound Familiar?
Weight is one of the most loaded topics in women's health, and one of the most oversimplified. You might be experiencing:
Weight gain around your middle, even though your habits haven't changed
A body that stopped responding to what used to work
Intense cravings, energy crashes, or feeling hungry soon after meals
Years of dieting that left you more confused and frustrated than when you started
Being told your blood sugar, A1C or cholesterol is "borderline"
Exercising hard without seeing results, and feeling exhausted afterward
Feeling judged or dismissed by providers who only talked about the number on the scale
Wanting support with nutrition while taking a GLP-1 medication
None of this means you lack willpower. Women's bodies are shaped by hormones, metabolism, stress and life stage, and real change comes from working with that biology, not against it.
Why Weight Is Different for Women
Weight isn't just about calories in and calories out. For women especially, it's shaped by a web of hormonal and metabolic signals:
Insulin resistance: when cells respond less well to insulin, the body tends to store more fat, especially around the middle. It's common with PMOS/PCOS and in perimenopause, and it often shows up years before blood sugar looks abnormal
Perimenopause and menopause: shifting estrogen changes where the body stores fat and can reduce insulin sensitivity and muscle mass
Cortisol and chronic stress: ongoing stress raises blood sugar, increases cravings and encourages fat storage around the middle
Sleep: short or disrupted sleep affects hunger hormones and makes blood sugar harder to regulate
Thyroid function: an underactive thyroid can slow metabolism and cause weight gain
Muscle mass: muscle is metabolically active tissue, and it naturally declines with age unless we protect it
Years of dieting: repeated restriction can leave the body primed to hold on
This is why the same plan can work for one woman and fail for another. Your plan should be built around your physiology.
A Root-Cause, Shame-Free Approach to Weight Health
My focus is on metabolic health, energy, strength and how you feel in your body, not just a number. Weight often shifts as a result. We look at:
Insulin and blood sugar: meal composition, protein, fiber and timing to steady blood sugar and reduce cravings
Hormones: how your cycle, PMOS/PCOS, perimenopause or thyroid may be affecting your metabolism
Muscle and movement: protecting and building muscle with adequate protein and strength-focused movement that fits your life
Stress and sleep: practical ways to lower cortisol and improve rest, two often-overlooked levers
Targeted labs: fasting insulin, glucose, A1C, lipids, thyroid and key nutrients, based on your history
Your relationship with food: moving away from the diet cycle toward eating that feels sustainable and satisfying
Nutrition Support on GLP-1 Medications
If you're taking a GLP-1 medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide, nutrition matters more than ever. I help you get enough protein and nutrients on a smaller appetite, protect muscle mass, manage side effects like nausea and constipation, and build habits that last, whether you stay on the medication or eventually stop. I work alongside your prescribing provider.
Your plan may include personalized nutrition, targeted lab testing, behavior-change strategies, and pharmaceutical-grade, third-party tested supplements from one of our trusted partners.

Women's Weight Health FAQs
Why am I gaining weight even though I haven't changed anything?
Common reasons include insulin resistance, hormonal shifts in perimenopause, chronic stress, poor sleep, thyroid changes, medications and gradual muscle loss with age. Your body's needs change over time, so what worked before may not work now.
Why is perimenopause weight gain so hard to lose?
Falling and fluctuating estrogen shifts fat storage toward the middle, reduces insulin sensitivity and makes it harder to maintain muscle. Protein, strength training, blood sugar balance, stress and sleep tend to matter more than cutting calories.
Do you offer nutrition support for GLP-1 medications?
Yes. I help women on GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide meet protein and nutrient needs, protect muscle, manage side effects, and build sustainable habits. I work alongside your prescribing provider.
Is this a diet program?
No. There are no rigid meal plans or extreme restriction. We build an eating pattern that supports your metabolism and hormones and fits your life.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. I see clients in person in Portland, Oregon, and virtually.
Do you take insurance?
Moore Integrative Health is an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible reimbursement, and HSA/FSA funds can often be used.
