Hormone Imbalance Support in Portland, OR
When you're tired, wired, cycling irregularly and not quite yourself, your hormones are often trying to tell you something. Let's listen.
Chelsie Moore is a functional medicine clinician and integrative dietitian nutritionist in Portland, OR, who helps women find and address the root causes of hormone imbalance. Her work covers fatigue, mood, sleep, cycle changes, weight and blood sugar. She sees clients in person in Portland and virtually.
Maybe you've been told everything looks "normal," or handed a quick fix that never got to the why. Your symptoms are real, they're connected, and there's a lot we can do once we understand what's driving them.
Signs Your Hormones May Be Out of Balance
Hormone imbalance rarely looks like one dramatic symptom. More often, it's a cluster of changes you've learned to work around. You might be noticing:
Fatigue that coffee and an early bedtime don't fix
Painful, heavy or irregular periods, or PMS that takes over part of every month
Anxiety, irritability or low mood that seems to follow your cycle
Trouble falling or staying asleep
Stubborn weight gain, especially around your middle
Energy crashes, sugar cravings or feeling "hangry" between meals
Low libido
Hair thinning, acne or skin changes
Feeling cold, sluggish or foggy
These aren't personal failings or something you just have to live with. They're signals worth taking seriously, and they usually point to patterns we can address.
What Is Hormone Imbalance?
Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate your energy, mood, sleep, metabolism, cycle and more. "Hormone imbalance" describes what happens when one or more of them is too high, too low, or poorly timed, and the effects ripple through the rest of your body.
No hormone works alone. Your sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone and testosterone) are closely connected to cortisol (your main stress hormone), insulin (which manages blood sugar) and thyroid hormones (which set your metabolic pace). When one gets pushed off course, the others often follow. That's why hormone symptoms can seem scattered, and why treating one of them at a time so often falls short.
Common drivers include chronic stress, blood sugar swings, under-eating or skipped meals, poor sleep, gut issues, thyroid dysfunction, and life stages like postpartum and perimenopause.
A Root-Cause Approach to Hormone Health
Functional and integrative care starts with why. Instead of masking symptoms, we map how your hormones interact and what's pushing them off balance:
Sex hormones: estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, along with how your body makes, uses and clears them
Stress and cortisol: how chronic stress, overwork and poor recovery shape your daily energy and cycle
Blood sugar and insulin: steady blood sugar is one of the most powerful levers for hormone balance
Thyroid function: a full picture, not just a single screening number
Gut and liver health: digestion and detoxification pathways help regulate how hormones are processed
Nutrition, sleep and movement: the daily inputs your hormones depend on
Your plan may include personalized nutrition, targeted lab testing, realistic lifestyle and behavior-change strategies, and pharmaceutical-grade, third-party tested supplements from one of our trusted partners. Integrative care works alongside your other providers, and I'm happy to coordinate with your doctor or prescribing clinician.

Hormone Imbalance FAQs
What are the most common signs of hormone imbalance in women?
Common signs include persistent fatigue, irregular or painful periods, PMS, mood changes, poor sleep, weight gain around the middle, sugar cravings, low libido, and hair or skin changes. Because hormones are interconnected, symptoms often show up together.
How do you test for hormone imbalance?
Testing depends on your symptoms and history. It may include blood work for sex hormones, thyroid, blood sugar markers and nutrients, and sometimes other functional tests. Timing matters. For women who are still cycling, some hormones are best tested on specific days of the cycle. Labs are always interpreted alongside your symptoms, not in isolation.
Can hormone imbalance be treated naturally?
Often, yes. Nutrition, blood sugar balance, stress support, sleep and targeted supplements can make a meaningful difference for many women. When medication or hormone therapy is appropriate, integrative care can work alongside it.
What does a functional medicine practitioner do for hormones?
A functional medicine practitioner looks at how your hormones, stress response, blood sugar, thyroid and gut interact, and identifies what's driving your symptoms. You leave with a personalized plan rather than a one-size-fits-all fix.
Do you offer virtual hormone support?
Yes. I see clients in person in Portland, Oregon, and virtually.
Do you take insurance?
Moore Integrative Health is an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible reimbursement, and HSA/FSA funds can often be used.
Feel Like Yourself Again
You don't have to keep guessing, pushing through, or accepting "normal" labs as the final word. When we understand what your hormones are responding to, change becomes possible, and often sooner than you'd expect.
